THIS MONTH WE RECOMMEND:
NUS ARTS FESTIVAL is back this month for its 10th run. This year’s theme – “Spirit of the Times” – celebrates the pioneers who helped build Singapore. With 31 programs to choose from, we at Arts are here to make that decision a little easier.
Words and Music: A Love Story Told In Jazz
Date: Friday Mar. 20, 8 pm
Venue: University Cultural Centre Hall (UCC), NUS
Price: $27, $22 & $19 through SISTIC (http://www.sistic.com.sg/events/words0315)
Kick starting the festival is a story of two people who connect through their mutual love for jazz. Featuring Jeremy Monteiro, notable NUS alumni such as Rani Singam, and the NUS Jazz Band, this performance breathes music into Wang Liansheng’s The Boy Inside to explore the uncertainty of new love.
Dance Reflections: Still I Rise
Date: Sunday Mar. 29, 8 pm
Venue: University Cultural Centre Hall (UCC), NUS
Price: $22 & $19 through SISTIC (http://www.sistic.com.sg/events/rise0315)
Showcasing the diversity of Singapore’s dance traditions, the six dance groups under NUS Centre for the Arts fuse modern and ethnic influences in response to Maya Angelou’s poem Still I Rise.
