On Saturday, Mar. 23, hundreds of thousands of people marched into central London to protest Britain’s exit from the European Union (EU), also known as ‘Brexit’, a process set into motion by a national referendum back in 2016.
Fed up with increasingly chaotic Brexit talks and a government that appeared to be in disarray, the protesters called for a new referendum to decide on the Brexit deal negotiated by Prime Minister Theresa May’s government, as well as the UK’s relationship with the EU in general.
Being based in London for my semester abroad, I received a news notification about the march on my phone at around 2:30PM. Abandoning my plans for the day, I headed to the nearest Tube station in a mad dash for Parliament Square.
