We thank The Octant for the pertinent article “Insufficient LGBTQ Discourse in Universities“, published on September 8, 2016. This fact is one that cannot be more obvious to those at the forefront of LGBTQ+ student activism. We agree with Seah that there is much more that can be done to “spur real change”. However, it would be inaccurate to infer from Yang’s quote that LGBTQ interest groups only “focus on how much [we] have progressed”. Since last year, our group has worked with our partners to set up the Inter-University LGBT Network and continue to advocate for the rights and welfare of LGBTQ+ youth across Singapore, and make discourse regarding LGBTQ+ issues accessible to a wider audience. We strongly invite all students who feel “forced to accept this limited discourse as a reality” to work more intimately with The G Spot to spearhead new initiatives they want to see.
